Gilas Pilipinas narrowly loses to Japan 85-82 in women's FIBA Asia Cup

Despite trailing by as much as 22 points in the fourth quarter, Gilas Pilipinas narrowly lost to Japan 85-82 in a FIBA Women's Asia Cup match on Monday.

Team captain Jack Animam praised her teammates for their spirited comeback and said the defeat still feels like a win due to their effort and resilience.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio commended the team, stating that their performance is a clear indication of the rise in Philippine women's basketball.

Animam led Gilas with 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Vanessa de Jesus contributed 13 points and scored a crucial three-pointer near the end of the game.

Gilas will face Lebanon on Wednesday as they look to improve their tournament standing following their close loss to Japan.
