Gilas Pilipinas eliminated from FIBA Asia Cup after loss to Australia

Gilas Pilipinas was eliminated from the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup after losing to Australia, 84-60, in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday evening (Manila time) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Kevin Quiambao led Gilas with 17 points and four rebounds but acknowledged the team's struggle against Australia’s superior athleticism and quickness.

Coach Tim Cone noted that Australia’s defensive prowess limited Gilas to a shooting clip of 31.9% compared to Australia's 42.7%, with the rebounding disparity standing at 57-36 in favor of Australia.

Dwight Ramos emphasized the need for more time together and better execution, particularly in defending the three-point shot, as Gilas ranked second worst in allowing three-point field goals during the tournament.

Gilas will face Guam, New Zealand, and Australia again in November during the group phase of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
