Gil Buenaventura, RCBC's former president, dies

Veteran banker Gil Buenaventura passed away on Monday, April 21, according to an announcement by Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC).

Buenaventura served as RCBC's president and CEO from 2016 until June 2019, succeeding Lorenzo Tan following the $81-million Bangladesh Bank fund heist.

During his tenure at RCBC, Buenaventura was credited with maintaining the bank's profitability despite market and regulatory challenges.

Prior to joining RCBC, Buenaventura held leadership roles at DBP, BPI, and Prudential Bank, and earned his economics degree from the University of San Francisco in 1973 and a master’s in business administration from the University of Wisconsin in 1975.
