Luistro reelected as Batangas 2nd District Rep

Gerville 'Jinky' Luistro won reelection as Batangas 2nd District Representative on Tuesday, May 13, securing 109,478 votes compared to her opponent Raneo 'Ranie' Abu's 66,583.

The race was seen as a proxy battle between national-level politicians, with Luistro receiving support from Speaker Martin Romualdez and Abu backed by Vice President Sara Duterte and the Iglesia ni Cristo religious group.

Luistro gained recognition for her interpellation skills during the quad committee's investigations into issues such as extrajudicial killings, the war on drugs, and POGO operations under former president Rodrigo Duterte.

She also questioned Vice President Sara Duterte about confidential expenses and voted to impeach her; this win ensures Luistro will continue in that role when the impeachment trial begins after the State of the Nation Address in July.

Both candidates faced accusations of vote-buying and abuse of state resources during the campaign, but both denied these allegations.
