Duterte set to sign bill allowing school opening beyond August

The ball is now in President Duterte's court regarding Senate Bill No. 1541, which allows him to reschedule school openings beyond August.

The bill amends RA 7797, giving the President authority to set a different start date for classes during emergencies or calamities upon DepEd’s recommendation.

Senators Gatchalian and Rep. Romulo assured that Congress will prioritize passing this measure before the session ends on Friday.

Gatchalian said they are flexible with the Senate version of the bill, emphasizing the need for quick approval to address the pandemic's impact on education.
