Gasataya wins Bacolod mayoral race, Benitez secures congressional seat

Representative Greg Gasataya won the Bacolod City mayoral race on May 12, defeating Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran with a margin of 13,843 votes and will take office as mayor on June 30.

Gasataya, who began his political career in 2001 as city councilor and later served multiple roles including vice mayor and congressman, expressed gratitude for the support he received.

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo 'Albee' Benitez secured victory over former mayor Evelio 'Bing' Leonardia in the race for the city's lone congressional seat, winning by 44,714 votes and will also transition to Congress on June 30.

Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella emerged victorious in the vice mayoral race with a margin of 12,933 votes over fellow councilor Renecito Novero.

Team Asenso candidates dominated the City Council, winning 11 out of the 12 seats, including returning and reelectionist councilors.
