Frigoni named Alas Pilipinas men's coach

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) announced on Saturday that Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni has taken over as head coach of the Alas Pilipinas men's national team effective June 15.

Former head coach Sergio Veloso is now focused on developing a grassroots program for junior volleyball teams, including Under-18 and Under-20 squads for both men's and women's divisions.

Frigoni, who has led Italy to the World Championship title in 1990 and has Olympic coaching experience, will prepare the Philippine team for the FIVB Men's World Championships next year in Manila.

PNVF president Ramon 'Tats' Suzara highlighted that Frigoni's expertise will be crucial in elevating player skills like those of Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas.

Suzara also mentioned plans to recruit Filipino-American talents during a 10-day trip to the US for both indoor and beach volleyball, with an open tryout scheduled in Los Angeles next week.
