DOT starts TRA construction in Sabtang, Batanes

The Department of Tourism (DOT) commenced construction on Thursday of the first tourist rest area (TRA) in Sabtang Island, Batanes, designed to reflect Ivatan heritage.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco highlighted the project's aim to enhance tourism infrastructure and improve visitor experiences in remote areas.

Situated at the Sabtang port, the TRA will include clean restrooms, a lounge, charging stations, a lactation room, an information hub, and a pasalubong center showcasing local products and delicacies.

Batanes Vice Governor Ignacio Villa welcomed the initiative, noting its incorporation of Ivatan architectural elements that align with the island's heritage.

The DOT aims to establish around 100 TRAs nationwide by year-end and is also considering infrastructure improvements such as access roads and port facilities in Batanes.
