Fishers in Pangasinan get PHP15K for drug turnover

Fifty-seven fisherfolk from Bolinao, Agno, and Bani in Pangasinan received cash incentives and commendations for turning over floating packs of illegal drugs they found at sea on Friday.

Each fisherman was awarded a PHP10,000 grocery pack and a certificate of commendation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), with additional PHP5,000 from the provincial government.

Local governments in Bolinao, Bani, and Agno also provided undisclosed cash incentives to their fishers.

During the event, PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez commended the fisherfolk for their bravery and loyalty in turning over the drugs instead of being tempted by money.

Governor Ramon Guico III thanked the coastal residents and urged them to remain vigilant, promising more anti-drug education and rehabilitation programs.

Ricky Palapar, one of the fishers, expressed his intention to use the incentive to support his children's needs.
