Fire breaks out at Colegio de San Juan de Letran, no casualties

A fire broke out at the St. Thomas building on the second floor of Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila City, on Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze was reported at 2:04 p.m., and firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) declared it under control by 2:30 p.m. and fully extinguished by 2:45 p.m.

No casualties were reported, but an emergency evacuation was conducted throughout the campus due to safety concerns.

Classes were temporarily suspended as students, faculty, and staff were evacuated; however, a baccalaureate mass proceeded as scheduled on Thursday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with Letran's official student publication indicating that it may have been an electrical fire.

Letran’s Sulong Arriba 2024 event was rescheduled to start at 5 p.m. due to the incident.
