Filipina develops rare blood disorder after Moderna COVID-19 vaccine

A 72-year-old Filipina in New York developed immune thrombocytopenia, a rare blood disorder, three days after receiving her first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

Despite her condition, she remains confident in the importance of vaccines and credits medical professionals for their support.

Experts are investigating whether there is a link between the vaccine and the condition; however, no conclusive evidence has been found linking them.

The cases have been forwarded to manufacturers and regulators such as the FDA and CDC who report that rates do not appear higher than usual in the US population.
