Filipino self-rated poverty drops to 42%, food poverty to 35%

The latest Tugon ng Masa (TNM) survey by OCTA Research shows a decline in self-rated poverty and food poverty among Filipinos.

In April 2025, 42% of respondents considered themselves poor, down from 50% in November 2024, representing an estimated 11.1 million Filipinos.

Food poverty also decreased significantly to 35%, compared to 49% in the previous survey, affecting about 9.2 million families.

The number of families experiencing food poverty dropped by approximately 3.7 million from November 2024 to April 2025.

While self-rated hunger showed a slight decrease to 13%, this change is within the margin of error and considered statistically unchanged since Q4 2024.

OCTA highlighted that Mindanao has the highest percentage of adult Filipinos who consider their families poor at 61 percent, closely followed by the Visayas at 60 percent.

The TNM survey, conducted among 1,200 respondents nationwide, also noted varying margins of error for different geographic areas at a 95% confidence level.
