Archbishop Bernardito Auza appointed EU nuncio

Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Bernardito Cleopas Auza of Talibon, Bohol, as the new apostolic nuncio to the European Union (EU), succeeding Archbishop Noël Treanor.

This appointment follows his previous roles as apostolic nuncio to Spain and Andorra since January 2020, and permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations since July 2014.

Throughout his extensive career, Archbishop Auza has served in Haiti, Madagascar, Bulgaria, Albania, and the Secretariat of State in the Vatican, demonstrating his profound experience in international affairs.

The Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) welcomed Auza's diplomatic expertise and ecclesial service, noting their confidence in a fruitful collaboration to advance the common good in the EU.
