FEU-D clinches UAAP chess lead, UST falls behind

University of Santo Tomas secured a 4-0 victory over De La Salle University in the UAAP Season 87 men's chess tournament, but Far Eastern University-Diliman has virtually clinched both the boys' and girls' championships with their seventh straight win.

FEU-D defeated UST 3.5-0.5 in Round 8 of the boys' division, while Ruelle Canino led FEU-D to a commanding 4-0 victory over Adamson University in the girls' division.

UST remains on track for a fourth consecutive men's title with only two matches left, but their defeat to FEU-D solidifies the Baby Tamaraws' lead.

Far Eastern University now holds 15 match points in the women's division and three ahead of second-place La Salle, virtually securing the championship.

In another boys' division match, Ateneo High School defeated De La Sale Zobel 3-1, keeping their hopes alive for a podium finish.

Round 9 for both divisions is scheduled for Saturday.
