Education budget higher than DPWH's in 2025

Assistant Majority Leader Jay Khonghun clarified on Tuesday that the total budget allocated to the education sector remains higher than that of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the 2025 national budget.

Khonghun stated that the education sector's budget is PHP1.055 trillion, while DPWH will have PHP1.033 trillion for 17 December 2024.

The total allocation includes funding for agencies under the education sector such as DepEd (PHP782.17 billion), CHED (PHP34.88 billion), SUCs (PHP127.23 billion), TESDA (PHP20.97 billion), and others.

Khonghun noted that additional funding for education-related infrastructure amounts to PHP14.76 billion, increasing the total education budget further.

In comparison, DPWH's original allocation of PHP1.114 trillion was reduced by PHP82 billion in convergence projects, leaving a net total of PHP1.033 trillion.

Khonghun emphasized that even with these allocations, education remains the top priority and is never abandoned as it forms the foundation for the country’s future.
