Duterte urges locals to travel domestically to boost economy

President Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos to travel locally to boost the economy during his fifth State of the Nation Address on Monday.

He emphasized that the tourism and recreation industries, severely impacted by the pandemic, need public support once safety protocols are in place.

Duterte called for harmonization between national government agencies and local government units to ensure traveler safety and economic recovery.

Tourism revenue from foreign arrivals dropped significantly from January to March compared to the same period last year.
