DOTr studies España Boulevard, Quezon Avenue busway feasibility

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is studying the feasibility of constructing a busway along España Boulevard in Manila and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City, similar to the EDSA Bus Rapid Transit System.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that there is a lack of buses for students in the approximately 8-kilometer stretch between Manila and Quezon City, but the proposed route would extend over 15 kilometers linking both areas.

A feasibility study is currently underway with hopes of completion by 2026, after which the government will initially implement the project before privatizing it for operations and maintenance.

The DOTr plans to rehabilitate the existing EDSA Bus Carousel by adding more buses and improving headway, while also putting up covered bridgeways and elevators this year.

Outside Metro Manila, Dizon said the government was also working on building bus rapid transit (BRT) systems in Cebu and Cavite.
