DoTr evaluates site for new transport terminal, signs SEMME agreement

The Department of Transportation (DoTr) is evaluating potential sites for an integrated transport terminal in northern Metro Manila that would connect to either the North-South Commuter Railway or the Metro Manila Subway.

Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista told reporters on Monday that a feasibility study is being prepared and expected to be completed within a few months.

The proposed terminal differs from another planned hub for a three-hectare lot in Quezon City owned by the Government Service Insurance System, and DoTr is also considering a private-public partnership with bus company Victory Liner.

On Monday, the DoTr signed an agreement with San Miguel Corp., Ayala Land Inc., the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, and other government agencies for the right-of-way for the first phase of the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME).

The SEMME project is a 32.7-kilometer toll road expected to cost over P45 billion, aiming to connect the South Luzon Expressway Skyway system in Taguig City to Quezon City's Batasan Complex.

The expressway aims to provide an alternate route from southern Metro Manila to eastern areas and Rizal province, benefiting up to 88,338 motorists daily by reducing travel time from Bicutan to Batasan to under 30 minutes.
