DoTr seeks P3B for new LRT-1 station in Talaba, Bacoor

The Department of Transportation (DoTr) has requested an additional P3 billion for the 2026 General Appropriations Act to build a new station in Talaba, Bacoor City for the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite extension.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced Monday that this proposed station was requested by Bacoor City and would not alter the current alignment of the LRT-1 extension, which connects between Zapote and Niog stations.

Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), responsible for operations and maintenance of LRT-1, has been informed about this proposal two months ago, and construction will be bid out to another contractor before being turned over to LRMC.

While DoTr does not yet have a ridership forecast for the new station, Secretary Dizon believes there is potential for high ridership due to future development in Bacoor City.

The LRT-1 Cavite extension's first phase added five stations and 6.2 kilometers of track from Baclaran Station to Dr. Santos Station last year, with phases two and three covering Las Piñas, Zapote, and Niog.

DoTr plans to complete the final phase of the LRT-1 Cavite extension by 2030 at the latest, while expressing confidence that two more train stations—Las Piñas and Zapote—could open before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. steps down in 2028.
