Free MRT-3 and LRT-1 rides on Araw ng Kalayaan

Commuters can ride MRT-3 and LRT-1 and LRT-2 lines for free on Wednesday, June 12, Araw ng Kalayaan, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced this initiative last Sunday, followed by MRT-3's announcement yesterday, to remind Filipinos of the sacrifices made by heroes for national freedom.

Assistant Secretary for Railways and MRT-3 Officer-in-Charge Jorjette Aquino expressed hope that free rides would honor the country's history and encourage citizens to continue protecting their freedom.

Light-rail Transit 1 (LRT-1) will follow a normal holiday schedule, with first trains departing at 5 a.m. and last trains leaving at 9:30 p.m. from Baclaran Station and 9:45 p.m. from Fernando Poe Jr. station.

LRTA Administrator Attorney Hernando Cabrera announced that LRT-2 will also offer free rides during peak hours to celebrate Independence Day, emphasizing the importance of preserving the true spirit of the holiday.
