LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 opens this month

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista announced that Phase 1 of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Cavite Extension will begin commercial operations this month, connecting Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City.

The partial operation includes five new stations: Redemptorist - Aseana, MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos, extending the railway's alignment by an additional 6 kilometers to a total of 26 kilometers.

Light Rail Manila Corporation President Enrico Benipayo said Phase 1 includes stations equipped with elevators, escalators, and tactile guides for passengers with special needs, expected to reduce travel time from Quezon City to Parañaque by 30 minutes.

Automated entrance gates, ticket vending machines, and teller booths have been installed and tested as part of the preparation for the extension's opening, which will boost daily ridership by an estimated 80,000 passengers.

The fare for the entire LRT-1 route, from FPJ Station in Quezon City to Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station in Cavite, including the new stations, will be P45.

The DoTr and LRMC are still working on resolving issues for the construction of Phase 2 and Phase 3, with plans to finalize the schedule within the next year.
