DOTr places MRT-3 on security alert for elections

The Department of Transportation has placed the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) on heightened security alert starting Friday in preparation for the upcoming midterm elections scheduled for Monday, May 12.

Security personnel and local police officers are stationed at MRT-3 stations to address potential security concerns, while K-9 units from MRT-3 and the Philippine Coast Guard have been deployed to handle possible bomb threats.

The DOTr assured that there will be enough trains in operation, with up to 19 train sets running during peak hours to accommodate the surge of commuters.

Voting for the midterm elections begins on May 12 at 5 a.m. for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women, and at 7 a.m. for others, closing at 7 p.m.

The Palace has declared Monday, May 12 as a special non-working day to facilitate voter turnout.
