DOTr extends MRT3, LRT1 evening hours; adds trains during peak

Starting Monday, March 24, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) extended Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) weekday evening operating hours by one hour and Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) followed suit on Tuesday, extending its operations by 30 minutes starting Wednesday, March 26.

During peak hours, more trains will be deployed to enhance passenger service and reduce crowding as announced during a press briefing on Monday by DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon.

The new schedule for MRT3 extends southbound station closing times to 10:00 pm and northbound stations until around 11:30 pm, while LRT1's last train will leave Dr. Santos Station at 10:30 p.m., from the previous 10 p.m., and Fernando Poe Jr. Station at 10:45 p.m.

Dizon emphasized that the extension would ease passengers' daily lives by reducing long lines and improving overall travel conditions following an inspection of Taft, Ayala, and Shaw stations last week.

MRT3 management will also conduct additional maintenance hours during weekends as part of their coordination with the DOTr to compensate for lost weekday maintenance time.
