DOTr deploys four-car Dalian train on MRT-3, more coming soon

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Tuesday that a four-car Dalian train is now operating on Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), with more expected to be operational soon.

Passengers will board trains faster after the MRT-3 deployed this four-car train following safety checks, increasing each train set's capacity by 500 during rush hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon noted that six more Dalian train sets will be operational in the next few weeks, potentially raising MRT-3 carrying capacity to 800,000 passengers daily once all trains are used.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated in his State of the Nation Address last month and again this year that the administration is working on operationalizing idle Dalian trains purchased in 2014 for P3.76 billion from China's CCRC Dalian Co., with some expected to be running by year-end and the rest in 2026.
