DOTr hands over PHP12.75B for Laguindingan Airport modernization to AIC

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially handed over PHP12.75 billion for the modernization of Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental to Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) on Friday, October 11.

During a turnover ceremony, DOTr awarded AIC with a 30-year project under a public-private partnership scheme starting in April 2025, following the CAAP's expansion of the airport's passenger terminal by 72% last month.

AIC president Cosette Canilao highlighted that the modernization will transform Laguindingan Airport into a world-class facility, marking a significant step for their airport platform and promising increased efficiency and international standards.

The upgrade includes renovating and expanding the passenger terminal, installing major equipment, and enhancing airside and landside facilities. The first phase of the project aims to increase the airport's capacity from 1.6 million to 3.9 million passengers annually by April 2025, with a potential further expansion to 6.1 million passengers in 2026.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista expressed confidence in Aboitiz InfraCapital’s ability to elevate Laguindingan Airport to global standards and improve passenger service.

The modernization project follows the recent expansion of Laguindingan's passenger terminal, which now accommodates more travelers.
