DOT, DOH sign MoU for tourist first aid facilities at major beaches

The Department of Tourism (DOT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Health to establish tourist first aid facilities in major beach destinations like Boracay, Siargao, Panglao, Palawan, La Union, and Puerto Galera.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco announced this initiative during a signing ceremony on Monday, emphasizing the collaboration between DOT, DoH, and TIEZA to ensure tourist safety.

These facilities will provide emergency response for tourists who encounter accidents or injuries, staffed by trained healthcare personnel with medical equipment and supplies.

The first aid facility in Siargao Island will be established near Cloud 9 surfing spot in General Luna town, as announced by DOT-13 Regional Director Ivonnie Dumadag on Wednesday.

Solar-powered first aid booths along beachfronts will be equipped with supplies like automated external defibrillators, a pullout stretcher, CCTV cameras, and two-way communication systems for distress calls.
