DOT allocates PHP15M to restore Manila Central Post Office

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has allocated PHP15 million to rehabilitate and restore the Manila Central Post Office, which was severely damaged by a fire in May 2023.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco highlighted the historical significance of the post office, emphasizing its role in Philippine history and culture.

Architects, heritage experts, and government officials are collaborating to bring back to life the neoclassical building, which was gutted by a fire that lasted over 30 hours.

The fund will cover detailed architectural and engineering studies for pre-restoration work and rehabilitation plans through Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).

Project consultants have already conducted a preliminary evaluation of the post office on January 16, with plans now being created for both pre-restoration work and the rehabilitation and conservation plan.
