DOST-10 revives IP weaving with new tech

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 10 has partnered with the local government of Talakag, Bukidnon province, to revive traditional weaving practices among indigenous peoples (IPs).

Virgilio Fuertes, DOST-10 Chief Science Research Specialist, emphasized that the initiative is part of the 'Uplifting Grassroots Livelihood Opportunities through Science, Technology, and Innovation' program.

The Damugu Weavers Association (DWA), led by Bae Cornita Sagayan and Bae Nenita Hugnaan, conducts training to reinforce traditional weaving patterns while introducing new techniques.

Irene Mae Sinhayan, president of DWA, expressed optimism about revitalizing the craft for future generations.

The program builds on the 2024 'Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development' initiative, which supports unconventional innovations used by marginalized communities.
