DOLE orders work stoppage at Armscor after fatal explosion

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) ordered a temporary work stoppage at a firearm manufacturing facility in Marikina City following an explosion that killed two workers and injured another on Monday, July 7.

DOLE-NCR Director Sarah Mirasol issued the Work Stoppage Order to the Rimfire Department of Armscor Global Defense Inc. (AGDI) to ensure worker safety during the investigation.

The affected 90 workers will receive necessary assistance from both DOLE and the company, which confirmed that the injured employee has been discharged from the hospital.

Armscor's chairperson, president, and CEO Martin Tuason stated that the firm would provide support to the families of the deceased employees.

DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma emphasized that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion, with AGDI cooperating fully with the Philippine National Police.
