NWPC approves PHP33 daily increase in minimum wage for Zamboanga Peninsula workers

The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has approved a PHP33 increase in the daily minimum wage for private sector workers in the Zamboanga Peninsula, effective December 12.

For non-agriculture sectors including service and retail establishments with more than 10 employees, the daily wage will rise from PHP381 to PHP414, while in the agriculture sector it increases from PHP368 to PHP401 for businesses with fewer than 10 workers.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) estimates that about 95,990 minimum wage earners and an additional 129,607 full-time employees earning above the minimum wage will benefit from this order.

The NWPC instructed the regional board to conduct information drives to ensure compliance and assist companies in correcting possible wage distortions.

Regional boards in other regions like the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Mimaropa are nearing completion of their own minimum wage determination processes, while the Bicol Regional Board has paused its process due to damage caused by Super Typhoon Kristine.
