DOJ forms SITN with PNP, NBI to probe Dayang's murder

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Tuesday that it would convene a special team to investigate the murder of former Kalibo, Aklan mayor and journalist Juan 'Johnny' Dayang.

Dayang was shot dead in Bgy. Andagao, Kalibo on April 29, 2025.

The DOJ has formed a Special Investigation Team on New Cases (SITN) to probe the killing of Dayang, with two prosecutors leading investigators from the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators are tasked with fact-finding, gathering evidence, and filing charges as necessary under Administrative Order No. 01, s. 2016.

The SITN will submit regular progress reports to the DOJ until the case is resolved.

Undersecretary Jose Torres Jr. of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMs) is coordinating closely with the team.
