DOH reports 2 new mpox cases, total reaches 14

The Department of Health (DOH) reported two additional mpox cases on Wednesday, August 28, bringing the total number of cases since July 2022 to 14.

Of these cases, nine have recovered since 2023, while five are currently active, all detected this month.

The latest cases include a 26-year-old female from Metro Manila and a 12-year-old male from Calabarzon, both showing symptoms such as rashes, fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and coughing.

Health authorities have identified two close contacts for the 26-year-old case but are currently monitoring them without any reported symptoms.

Both new cases were infected with MPXV Clade II, a milder form of mpox virus, as confirmed by the DOH. The patients did not travel internationally three weeks before their symptoms appeared and are recovering at home under close monitoring.
