DOH, NCIP sign MOU for IPs' health and nutrition
The Department of Health (DOH) and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance health and nutrition services for indigenous peoples (IPs).
Through this partnership, they aim to provide nutritional services to over 860,000 IPs across 13 regions in the country.
In an interview on Friday, NCIP Chairperson Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las emphasized the importance of culturally sensitive nutrition programs for IP children suffering from malnutrition and stunting.
The partnership also involves the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development to address health issues prevalent in regions like Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Caraga Region.
To ensure access to these programs in geographically isolated areas, NCIP is collaborating with the Department of Public Works and Highways to improve infrastructure in remote locations.
