DOH: Leptospirosis cases up 22% from January to August

From January to August 6, the Philippines recorded a 22% increase in leptospirosis cases compared to the same period last year.

The DOH reported 1,411 cases this year, up from 1,157 cases in 2021.

There were 188 deaths due to leptospirosis, with the highest number of fatalities occurring in July (50).

Most cases were concentrated in Metro Manila (263), Western Visayas (171), and Cagayan Valley (169).

The Bicol region, Central Visayas, and Davao region exceeded alert and epidemic thresholds over the past four weeks.
