DOH launches 'Alas-Kwatro Kontra Mosquito' to fight dengue surge

The Department of Health (DOH) launched the 'Alas-Kwatro Kontra Mosquito' clean-up drive on Monday to combat rising dengue cases.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte led the initiative in Barangay Batasan Hills, distributing larvicide to residents.

The DOH also held similar clean-up drives in 19 other areas across the country.

As of February 15, over 43,732 dengue cases were reported nationwide from January to February 15 this year, marking a 56 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Quezon City declared a dengue outbreak after recording nearly 200 percent more cases than last year, with 1,769 cases logged in the same period.

Seventeen local government units in Calabarzon, National Capital Region, and Central Luzon are currently designated as dengue hotspots.
