DOH launches 'Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito' campaign amid surge in dengue cases

The Department of Health (DOH) launched the 'Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito' campaign on Monday in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City and several regions across the Philippines to combat a significant rise in dengue cases.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte reported that based on latest data, the city has logged almost 2,400 dengue cases with seventy-six out of 142 barangays exceeding alert or epidemic thresholds.

Despite the alarming case numbers, there are observations of a slowing trajectory due to increased awareness and better health-seeking behavior among residents.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa emphasized the importance of vector control and encouraged all regions to intensify efforts in eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

The DOH continues to promote the 5S strategy and advises communities to be wary of second dengue infections, which can lead to severe forms of the disease.
