DOE launches expanded Summer Programs to address education gaps

The Department of Education launched expanded Summer Programs on Thursday, April 10, aimed at addressing learning gaps exacerbated by recent disruptions in the education system.

These programs include initiatives such as the Bawat Bata Makababasa Program, Literacy Remediation Program, and Summer Academic Remedial Program, focusing on enhancing literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara stated that these summer programs are designed to provide necessary support for learners to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential, with a focus on foundational competencies across key stages in public schools nationwide.

Teachers participating in the programs will receive vacation service credits and professional recognition as an incentive, recognizing their crucial role in learning recovery.

The Bawat Bata Makababasa Program, a 20-day initiative for Grades 1 to 3 learners in Region 9, integrates nutrition and vision screening alongside reading tutorials.
