Dionardo Carlos named new PNP chief

President Duterte appointed Police Lieutenant General Dionardo Carlos as the new Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.

Carlos will replace outgoing PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar who is set to retire on November 13.

In his first speech, Carlos vowed to bolster police operations against criminality and illegal drugs, promising to continue the fight against these issues.

Carlos also emphasized the importance of continuing the PNP's role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and securing next year’s elections.

He designated Maj. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia as acting chief of the Directorial Staff, a post previously held by Carlos himself.
