Remulla urges strict fireworks regs for NYE

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla urged local government units (LGUs) to enforce strict regulations on fireworks ahead of New Year's Eve celebrations.

Remulla reminded LGUs to restrict the use of firecrackers and encouraged community fireworks displays with proper permits, as mandated by Executive Order No. 28-2017.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) was directed to ensure designated fireworks display zones comply with Republic Act No. 9514, while the Philippine National Police (PNP) was instructed to inspect, confiscate, and destroy illegal fireworks.

Remulla also encouraged the public to use alternative noise-making items like horns and recycled containers instead of firecrackers.

As of December 27, the Department of Health reported a total of 101 firework-related injuries from December 22 to early morning on December 27.
