DILG: LGU chiefs liable for failing to boost COVID-19 vaccination

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) warned on Wednesday that local chief executives could face legal repercussions if they fail to increase their COVID-19 vaccination efforts as instructed by the national government.

Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya cited the Local Government Code of 1991, stating complaints of neglect of duty or misconduct will be filed against officials who show indifference or unjustified failure in vaccine distribution.

On Tuesday, Malaya also warned that LGU officials may face liability for wasted and expired COVID-19 vaccines depending on the investigation's results.

The DILG is monitoring LGU performance through a vaccine operations reporting system and field officers stationed nationwide.
