DFA appoints Angelica Caraos Escalona as new spox

Ambassador Angelica Caraos Escalona, educated in Japan and Australia, was appointed as the new spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Escalona, who recently returned from her role as Consul General in Toronto, Canada, was introduced to the media by Foreign Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro at the DFA's main office in Pasay City on Friday.

With over two decades of diplomatic experience, Escalona has held key positions domestically and abroad, including roles in Honolulu, Tokyo, Jakarta, and Toronto, where she served as Consul General from 2023 to June 2025.

Escalona emphasized her commitment to providing timely, accurate, and clear information during a delicate period of complex geopolitical issues involving strained relations with China and its treaty alliance with the United States.

The Department warmly welcomes Escalona's appointment, highlighting her extensive experience and multiple honors including the Gawad Mabini - Dakilang Kasugo.
