DepEd suspends classes due to heat, transport strike

The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended in-person classes and shifted to distance learning in all public schools across the Philippines from Monday, April 29 to Tuesday, April 30 due to extreme heat and a nationwide transportation strike.

Teaching and non-teaching personnel do not need to report physically to their stations during this period as advised by DepEd.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts dangerous levels of heat index ranging from 42 to 51°C in over 30 areas on April 29.

Private schools have the option but are not required to follow DepEd's guidelines.

Regional and school division activities scheduled for these dates may proceed if safety measures are in place.
