DepEd sets June 16 start for SY 2025-2026

The Department of Education (DepEd) has set June 16 as the start date for School Year 2025-2026, returning to a pre-pandemic academic calendar.

Private schools are now encouraged but not required to begin classes on June 16 like public schools; they may adopt DepEd's guidelines provided they comply with the School Calendar Law and RA 7797.

DepEd Order No. 012 signed by Secretary Sonny Angara outlines that SY 2025-2026 will start on June 16, end on March 31, 2026, covering 197 class days including End-of-School-Year rites.

Enrollment activities and Brigada Eskwela are scheduled from June 9 to 13, a week before classes officially begin.

Private schools must adhere to the required number of class days as mandated by the School Calendar Law but have discretion in setting their official opening date within legal parameters.
