DepEd prepares plans to prevent learning loss in shortened SY 2024-2025

The Department of Education (DepEd) is preparing concrete plans to prevent learning loss as it braces for a shortened School Year 2024-2025 with only 165 school days.

Assistant Secretary Francis Bringas stated that the end of the current academic year will be on May 31, while SY 2024-2025 shall open on July 29 and conclude on March 31, 2025.

DepEd is developing interventions to ensure all competencies in the new MATATAG K-10 curriculum are covered within this shortened period, with a more aggressive approach for the old curriculum.

Bringas emphasized the need for intensified measures to prevent additional learning losses due to fewer school days and stressed that these approaches will be specified once the DepEd curriculum and teaching strands are finalized.

DepEd previously adopted a National Learning Recovery Program to tackle learning gaps exacerbated by pandemic-related closures and disruptions.
