DepEd announces 30-day flexible teacher vacation

On Monday, April 7, 2025, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced a 30-day uninterrupted flexible vacation for teachers to rest and recover.

Teachers can schedule their break between April 16 and June 1, either continuously or in staggered intervals, without school-related tasks as per DepEd's department order (DO) No. 9, series of 2025.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara hopes the amended guidelines will motivate teachers for the upcoming academic year after their break.

Teachers are not obligated to participate in Performance Management Evaluation System (PMES) activities but can submit required forms online by the end of the first month of SY 2025-2026, and professional development activities outside this period earn additional Vacation Service Credits.

The policy amendment covers teachers from the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and those involved in teaching Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) classes, with school heads not entitled to vacation benefits as they manage schools during breaks.
