BuCor, DENR sign MOA for Iwahig prison land title

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) signed a memorandum of agreement on Thursday to assist BuCor in securing a land title for its 29-hectare Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Under the MOA, DENR will conduct an actual ground delineation survey to validate land cover, vegetation, slope, elevation, and land classification, while BuCor will provide necessary documents such as titles, tax declarations, clearances, and funding for expenses related to the process.

BuCor aims to secure its land ownership through a Presidential Proclamation or Special Patent, underscoring the importance of formalizing land boundaries for effective management and community development.

The MOA marks a significant step in establishing clear legal status for BuCor properties nationwide.

Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. highlighted that the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm covers over 29,000 hectares of land, emphasizing the need for proper land titling to maintain and administer these public lands effectively.
