De La Salle beats Ateneo 1-0, extends UAAP lead

De La Salle University maintained its lead in the UAAP Season 87 women's football tournament after defeating Ateneo de Manila University 1-0 on Saturday at UP Diliman Football Stadium.

Angelica Teves scored the only goal of the match from a penalty kick in the 8th minute, securing De La Salle's 11th consecutive victory against Ateneo since Season 78 and extending their unbeaten streak to nine games.

With this win, De La Salle increased its points to nine and improved their goal difference to plus-5, solidifying their position at the top of the standings ahead of defending champion Far Eastern University with six points (+4 goal difference).

Despite having several scoring opportunities, including a disallowed goal by Shai del Campo and two missed shots by substitute Aliexa Mae Casi, De La Salle managed to protect their lead.

De La Salle will face Far Eastern University in a rematch of last season's final on October 30 at 6:30 p.m., while Ateneo will play against University of Santo Tomas this Saturday.
