Seb Duterte criticizes Marcos admin over dad's ICC arrest

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte on Tuesday criticized the arrest of his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, calling it a political move by the Marcos administration.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Duterte alleged that the Bongbong Marcos government is using the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant to divert attention from budget issues and accused them of illegally detaining and denying medical care to his father.

The Philippine Center on Transnational Crime, with the Philippine National Police, served the ICC warrant for crimes against humanity committed during Duterte's drug war campaign.

Former President Duterte was arrested upon his return from Hong Kong at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City where he was read Miranda rights by Police Major General Nicolas Torre III.

Lawyers and political allies of the Dutertes are questioning the legality of the national budget due to alleged irregularities, while Vice President Sara Duterte faces impeachment complaints for alleged misuse of confidential funds.
