DA sets pork price cap in Metro Manila markets

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has implemented a maximum suggested retail price cap on pork in wet markets across Metro Manila starting Monday, March 10.

Retailers will see an MSRP of PHP380 per kilogram for liempo and PHP350 per kilogram for kasim and pigue, effective Monday, March 10.

An additional MSRP of PHP400 per kilogram applies to pork sold by traders to retailers but excludes supermarkets due to higher operating costs.

DA spokesman Arnel de Mesa said that after consultations with industry stakeholders, it was agreed upon that prices above P400 for pork are unreasonable.

The MSRP aims to address the 'disconnect' between farmgate and retail prices, which currently stands at PHP230-250/kg at the farm level.

There will be a review of the MSRP after one month to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with industry standards.

Supermarkets will remain exempt from the MRSP due to their higher operating costs.
