Calamba court acquits 3 in DJ Johnny Walker's murder

A court in Calamba, Misamis Occidental dismissed murder charges against three individuals accused of killing broadcaster Juan 'DJ Johnny Walker' Jumalon in November 2023.

The Calamba Regional Trial Court acquitted Jolito Mangompit, Reynante Saja Bongcawel, and Boboy Sagaray Bongcawel due to the prosecution's inability to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Presiding Judge Michael Ajoc ordered the release of Reynante Bongcawel and Boboy Bongcawel from detention, while Mangompit was transferred to the Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in Zamboanga for separate charges.

The court emphasized that wrongful accusations undermine the criminal justice system and cause further pain to Jumalon's family, urging authorities to find the real perpetrators of the killing.

Jumalon was shot dead during a live broadcast at his home in Calamba, Misamis Occidental on November 5, 2023.
